School Policies
Pupils should not have mobile phones at any time during the school day. Every child of any age, will be required to sign the school Mobile Phone Policy agreement. If your child needs to bring their phone to school for any reason, it must be handed to the school office on arrival and collected at the end of the school day.
It is vital that we have accurate emergency contact numbers for parents/carers. The office must be immediately informed of any changes to these numbers – particularly mobile phones. The school cannot be held responsible for the failure of parents to keep these records updated.
Your child’s class teacher has initial, day to day responsibility for your child’s general welfare in school. The teacher should be your first point of contact if you have any concerns about your child at school. It is our policy that you request an appointment to see a Head via the Communication Book. Each parent is given a time slot to discuss their concerns. This will ensure their privacy and avoid interrupting teachers during class. We ask that you always treat all staff members respectfully and remember that they have your child’s best interests at heart.
There is no formal reward and sanction system for Foundation and Reception pupils (Early Years). However, the children are given lots of praise and encouragement, and motivational stickers or stamps may be used.
Older pupils are given a school “house” and awarded house points for work or general helpfulness, tidiness, and teamwork. House points are accumulated, and a shield is presented to the winning house at the end of the school year. Weekly progress is announced during morning lines.
Pupils should only bring the necessary things to school for their school day. We strongly recommend that pupils do not bring jewellery, money or items of value to the school. The school accepts no responsibility for the loss or breakage of any personal belongings. Please find below a detailed list of forbidden items:
- Candy, Chocolate, Chewing Gum, Crisps, Chips, and Fizzy drinks (These items will not be returned to parents.)
- Electronic games.
- Toys and toy weapons (can be brought in upon request of the teacher)
- Money (unless requested by the school)
- Laptops, iPod and iPad (unless requested)
- Laser pointers
All punishments are considered in the light of the nature of the unacceptable behaviour, the context, and the previous history. Generally, the following sanctions are appropriate
- Verbal warning
- Loss of house points or sport points
- Withdrawal from break or lunchtime play
- Exclusion from certain activities
- Make up work if appropriate
- Report to the Head Teacher
- Write a letter of apology
- Positions of responsibility suspended
- Daily/weekly behaviour report
- Suspension for any forms of violence
Behaviour which breaks the school rules is always documented in school. Students will receive 3 verbal warnings, prior to exclusion from certain activities including trips. Internal school suspension will be implemented in cases of continual misbehaviour. If a student’s bad behaviour continues, or is violent (e.g. hitting or kicking), parents will be asked to come and discuss the situation, ultimately leading to school exclusion. Our in-house child Psychologist works closely with students and staff to assist where needed.
