School Day

Arrival at school

The main school doors open at 07:30, when children should begin to arrive. All pupils should be on the premises and on the school field by the start of the day at 07:45. Flag raising immediately follows, and then the class teacher will move directly into the first lesson. It is crucial that children are not late as they miss valuable teacher input and disrupt the learning of others.

Please note that children from Year 3 to Year 12 will not be admitted to the class after 8.30 am and will be recorded as an unauthorised absence. Lateness is closely monitored, and parents whose children frequently arrive late will be asked to discuss this with the Head of Stage.

School Hours:

Morning session 07:45 to 10:15

Morning Break 10:15 to 10:30

Lunch 12:45 to 1:15

Afternoon session 1:15 to 3:00

Morning break

In addition to plenty of water, children should bring a small snack for the morning break. Healthy snacks include ready-prepared or dried fruit, unflavoured popcorn, or a plain biscuit. Chocolate, crisps, or sweets are not allowed. Plain yoghurt (not fruit) and plain milk (not flavoured) are also healthy options. Moreover, the school’s cafeteria now offers a variety of healthy food options for the kids to enjoy during the morning break.

Lunch and lunch boxes

All children must bring a packed lunch each day, along with an additional drink. We encourage healthy eating. Hence, no chocolate, crisps, or sweets will be allowed. Please provide a spoon or plastic fork if this is needed to eat the food, e.g. pasta or yoghurt. Do not send your child to school with a knife. We return any uneaten food so that you can see what your child has (or has not) eaten. Please also bear in mind that lunch boxes are not refrigerated; you may wish to include an ice pack in the lunchbox. Please make sure all food containers, water bottles, and cutlery are labelled with your child’s name, so if they are lost and we find them, they can be returned.

Healthy cooked meals will be served in the school cafeteria on receipt of payment, according to parents’ requirements.

Water

An adequate fluid intake is essential to good health and is especially important in this climate. Pupils need to bring a water bottle containing fresh water to school each day. The water bottle should be removed from the pupil’s bag and placed on their desk to allow independent access to it throughout the day. In addition to the compulsory water bottle, children are permitted to drink fruit juice during lunchtime only.

Nuts

Many children suffer from severe allergies to nuts, and peanuts. For the safety of all pupils, nuts and peanuts, including peanut butter sandwiches and snack bars containing nuts, are not allowed in school.

End of the day

Any student who wishes to leave before the end of the school day must inform the school before 10 am on the same day. After 3 early departures within one term, the school will consider any early departure as an unauthorised absence for that day.

The end of the School day is at 15:00 when the bell will be rung. Classes are led out by a teacher to the front doors, younger children first. Children are not allowed out until staff can identify their parent(s). This is a matter of Child Protection – we will not allow anyone other than the child’s guardian to collect their child unless this has already been previously arranged via the school office and a School ID has been issued.

Procedure for Collection

All pupils are escorted either to the bus departure area or the designated supervised area inside Gate 2 for parent/guardian pick-up. At 3:15 pm, pupils who have not been picked up are escorted to a waiting area to await collection.

Children should be collected promptly at the end of the school day or after clubs and activities. The doors are open from 3:00 until 3:15 for Foundation, Primary, and Secondary.

If a parent or guardian is unavoidably delayed, they should contact the school office as soon as possible and endeavour to get to school as quickly and safely as possible. The child will be cared for by a matron until they are collected.
